Classic Recipe

  • Hook Tiemco 811S saltwater, 4-8
  • Thread Black UTC 140

Materials

  • Tail Orange blood-quill marabou (1 small clump)
  • Flash Pearl Krystal Flash (2-4 strands)
  • Body Gold flat tinsel (1 length)
  • Rib/overbody Medium clear D-Rib or mono (1 length)
  • Wing White calf tail (1 sparse clump)
  • Wing sides Grizzly hackle tips (2 feathers)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread at the 75% mark and wrap a smooth base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a clump of orange marabou at the bend for a tail about one shank length long, then add 2-4 strands of pearl Krystal Flash over the top, trimmed just past the marabou.
  3. Tie in the clear D-Rib and the gold tinsel at the bend. Wrap the tinsel forward in touching turns to the 75% mark and tie off.
  4. Counter-wrap the D-Rib forward in 5-6 open turns over the tinsel and tie off, the clear overbody protects the tinsel from bonefish teeth and coral.
  5. Tie in a sparse clump of white calf tail as a wing, one shank length long, angled back over the body.
  6. Set one grizzly hackle tip along each side of the wing, splayed slightly, extending to the tip of the calf tail.
  7. Build a neat tapered head, whip finish, and coat the head (and optionally the body) with UV resin or head cement.
