Shrimp · Bonefish · Redfish · Permit · Sea Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater flats hook, straight eye, #2-6
  • Thread Tan 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (Small silver lead dumbbell)
  • Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (Short length of pearl Mylar tubing)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (Pearl flat diamond braid)
  • Butt accent Orange permanent marker (Thread band)
  • Wing Tan carapace (Rabbit zonker strip)
  • Overwing Cream semperfli cashmere monkey (Small clump craft fur)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (1 strand Krystal Flash per side)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and bind the lead eyes at the one-third mark with figure-8 wraps.
  2. At the bend tie in a short pearl Mylar-tubing tail, fray the tip, and wrap thread back to the eyes leaving a small band of bare orange thread showing at the butt.
  3. Thread a tan rabbit zonker onto the hook point and slide it to the bend so a fingernail of leather lies flat against the shank as the tail wing.
  4. Catch in the diamond braid just behind the eyes and wrap it in touching turns back to just shy of the tail, then forward again to build a full pearly body, tying off behind the eyes.
  5. Bind a sparse cream craft-fur overwing on top, with one strand of pearl Krystal Flash flanking each side just past the wing.
  6. Figure-8 a small dubbing or thread head around the eyes, whip finish and cement.
