Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy saltwater hook (Tiemco 811S or equivalent), straight eye, #1/0-4
  • Thread Tan 140 denier (3/0)

Materials

  • Eyes Brass gold material (Small dazl/dumbbell eyes)
  • Tail/legs Tan barred rubber legs medium (Craft fur with pearl Krystal Flash)
  • Legs Barred pumpkin/orange (2-3 pairs silicone rubber legs)
  • Body Pearl/tan material (Lurex tinsel or pearl braid)
  • Hot spot Orange or pink material (Z-lon or dubbing wisp)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base along the back half of the shank.
  2. Bind the brass eyes a third back from the eye with figure-8 wraps, then invert the hook so they ride point-up (weed-resistant on the flats).
  3. At the bend tie in a sparse tan craft-fur tail one shank length long, a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash on top.
  4. Add a small band of orange z-lon or dubbing at the tail base as the hot spot, then splay two or three pairs of silicone legs to the sides.
  5. Wrap the pearl body forward in touching turns up to the eyes and figure-8 around them.
  6. Add one more pair of legs flanking the eyes, build a small head, whip finish and cement.
