Bonefish Critter--Dumbbell Eyes
Streamer · Bonefish · Permit · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Saltwater bonefish hook, 8-6
- Thread Tan 6/0
Materials
- Eyes Silver metal tape (Lead/brass dumbbell)
- Tail/antennae Tan/pink material (Craft fur or bucktail plus flash)
- Body Tan carapace (Tan ice dubbing)
- Legs Barred rubber legs (2-4 rubber legs)
- Wing/shell Tan carapace (Craft fur over the back)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook, start tan thread, and lash dumbbell eyes a short way back from the eye with tight figure-8 wraps so the fly rides hook-point up.
- Wind to the bend and tie in a sparse tan craft-fur tail with a few flash strands, about one shank long.
- Dub a shrimpy tan body forward, figure-8ing around the eyes to lock them and build bulk.
- Add a pair of splayed rubber legs on each side to kick on the strip.
- Sweep a clump of tan craft fur over the back as a shellback and bind it behind the eye.
- Whip finish behind the hook eye and cement.
