Bobby Coral

Dry Fly · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gape wet-fly / competition hook, 8-12
  • Thread Coral/orange 8/0

Materials

  • Eyes/float Coral or white closed-cell foam booby eyes (1 pair)
  • Tail Coral/orange marabou (one shank length)
  • Body Coral/orange Fritz (1 length)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a pair of foam booby eyes at the front of the hook with figure-eight wraps; these buoyant eyes are what make the fly hover.
  2. Wrap thread to the bend and tie in a coral marabou tail about one shank length long.
  3. Tie in coral Fritz and wrap it forward in dense touching turns, stroking the fibers back after each wrap.
  4. Wrap the Fritz around and behind the foam eyes to cover the tie-in, then tie off.
  5. Build a small head and whip finish.
