Materials

  • Body/head Hareline Thin Fly Foam, 2mm Black
  • Legs Fullingmill Flex Dubbing Orange
  • Peacock Hareline Strung Peacock Herl, 5"-7"

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base of black UTC 70 on a size 16 caddis hook and bring the thread to roughly halfway.
  2. Tie in a strip of 2mm black foam, counter-spinning the thread, and fold it back into a loop just past the back of the hook curve.
  3. Bring the thread forward and double the foam back to form a bulky head, lock it, then trim the excess.
  4. Bring the thread back, straddle orange Flex dubbing across the thread as with rubber legs, tie it in on one side and wrap, then repeat on the other side.
  5. Split the legs four and four and hold them out of the way.
  6. Tie in peacock herl alongside the legs and wrap it; the fly is finished in the middle.
  7. Cut off the herl, pull the legs where wanted, whip finish, and trim the legs roughly the length of the body.
