Blueberry Pie Panfish

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Curved shank scud/pupa, #12-16
  • Thread Black 70 denier or 8/0

Materials

  • Brass bead Silver bead (2.4mm (not tungsten. Keep it light))
  • Hungarian partridge feather (tail and collar) Natural partridge (1 small-to-medium feather)
  • UV2 Diamond Brite dubbing (body) Blue ice dub (3-4 inch noodle)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the silver bead onto the hook, mount it, and start black thread behind the bead, wrapping back to above where the barb would be.
  2. From one partridge feather, pull three or four of the longer fibers from each side and tie them in at the rear as a short tail.
  3. Lift the tail fibers and take a wrap of thread underneath them to prop the tail up slightly.
  4. Wax the thread and spin on a 3-4 inch noodle of blue Diamond Brite dubbing.
  5. Wrap the dubbing forward around the curve to form the body, ending just behind the bead.
  6. Take the same partridge feather, prepare a tie-in point at its tip, and catch it in right behind the bead; snip the tip.
  7. Using hackle pliers, take two wraps of the partridge as a collar and tie off.
  8. Leave the collar fibers standing out spider-style (don't sweep them back), make room behind the bead, and whip finish.
