Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry fly hook, 18-16
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Blue dun material (Few hackle fibers)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (Olive dry-fly dubbing)
  • Wing Dun microfibetts (Slate poly or hackle-tip)
  • Hackle Blue dun hackle (1 dry-fly feather)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start olive thread at the 75% mark.
  2. Tie in an upright dun poly or hackle-tip wing and post it with a few thread turns around the base.
  3. Wind to the barb and tie in a few blue dun fibers for a tail one shank length long.
  4. Dub a slim olive body forward from the tail to just behind the wing.
  5. Tie in a blue dun hackle and take 4-5 turns split fore and aft of the wing for a balanced float.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and add a tiny drop of cement at the wing base.
