  • Hook Standard wet fly hook, 18-14
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Blue dun material (Few hen fibers)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (Olive dubbing or floss)
  • Hackle Blue dun hackle (1 soft hen feather)
  • Wing Slate (Matched dun duck quill slips)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start olive thread, winding to the barb.
  2. Tie in a few blue dun hen fibers for a short tail.
  3. Dub or wrap a slim olive body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Tie in a soft blue dun hen hackle by the tip, take 2 turns, then sweep the fibers back and down as a beard.
  5. Set matched slate quill slips low over the body, tips curving down to the bend.
  6. Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
