Blue Ribbon's X2 Caddis

Dry Fly · Emerger · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook (TMC 100), 14-20
  • Thread Tan or olive 8/0

Materials

  • Shuck Amber/tan Antron or Z-Lon (short tuft)
  • Body Tan or olive superfine dubbing (as needed)
  • Wing Deer hair (Comparadun/down-wing style) (small clump)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a sparse tuft of Antron at the bend as a trailing shuck, imitating the discarded pupal husk; this is the pattern's key trigger.
  2. Dub a slim, tapered body forward over the rear two-thirds, keeping it slender like an emerging caddis.
  3. Stack a small clump of deer hair and tie it in as a down-wing over the body, tips reaching to about the bend.
  4. Trim and secure the butts, flaring the wing slightly for a clean caddis silhouette.
  5. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
