Materials

  • Tails Wood Duck Flank Fibers
  • Abdomen Stripped Peacock Eye Fiber
  • Wing Case Dyed Black Goose Wing Quill Section = to ¾ the Hook Gap
  • Thorax Brown Fur Blend with a Hue of Yellow
  • Legs Brown Speckled Hen Back

How to tie it

  1. Put the hook in the vise parallel to the table and cover the shank with thread back to where the shank and bend meet.
  2. Tie in a tail of natural wood duck flank fibres, angled slightly up, as long as the hook shank including the eye; wrap over the excess, without crowding the eye, and return the thread.
  3. Strip the fuzz from a peacock eye fibre to show its two-tone stripe, and tie it in by its thick end at the side of the hook.
  4. Build a slim thread taper to about the 50% mark of the shank.
  5. Wrap the fibre forward, each turn touching the last, for a segmented abdomen; tie off with four or five wraps and clip the excess.
  6. Optional: secure the abdomen with fine copper wire or a little UV glue.
  7. Tie in a section of dyed black goose quill about three quarters of the hook gap wide, underside up, by its natural end; clip the excess.
  8. Tie in brown speckled hen back fibres facing forward, about half the shank long, without crowding the eye, then fan them out to the sides.
  9. Dub a thin noodle of yellowish-brown fur blend for the thorax, build a little dam of thread in front of the legs.
  10. Fold the wing case forward, secure it with a couple of wraps, clip the excess and tie off.
  11. Put a little head cement on the knot and the wing case.
