Materials

  • Tail Brown permanent marker (Few pheasant tail fibers)
  • Body Reddish brown (Pheasant tail fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine copper wire)
  • Wing case Dark brown turkey tail mottled (Pheasant tail fibers)
  • Thorax Gray-brown material (Muskrat or gray dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the small hook and start brown thread, winding to the barb.
  2. Tie in a few pheasant tail fibers for a short slender tail, a bit less than half a shank.
  3. Bind in copper wire, then wrap a bunch of pheasant tail fibers forward to the 60% mark for a slim body.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 turns and tie off to armor the fragile fibers.
  5. Pull a wing case of pheasant tail fibers to the front and hold; dub a small gray-brown thorax behind the eye.
  6. Fold the wing case over the thorax, bind it down, and snip the excess.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
