Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet fly, 8-12
• Thread Black 6/0

Materials

• Tail Red hackle fibers or red quill slip (small bunch)
• Rib Flat gold tinsel (fine)
• Body Blue floss (slim)
• Hackle Brown hen hackle (1)
• Wing Grey mallard flank (1 folded slip)

How to tie it

1. Tie in the red tail at the bend, the Professor's signature flash of red.
2. Tie in the gold rib, wrap a slim blue floss body to the 70% mark, then rib with 4-5 turns.
3. Wind 2-3 turns of brown hen hackle as a beard.
4. Fold a grey mallard flank feather and set it as a low wing over the body.
5. Whip finish a neat black head.
