Blue Partridge

Classic Recipe

• Hook Standard wet fly / spider hook, 14-16
• Thread Blue (Pearsall's Gossamer 7) 8/0

Materials

• Silk Blue Pearsall's Gossamer, waxed (full body)
• Body Blue silk dubbed with a little lead-coloured lamb's wool (shank)
• Hackle Feather from a partridge's back (1-2 turns)

How to tie it

1. Run the blue silk from behind the eye to above the barb and back to the two-thirds mark.
2. Twist a tiny amount of lead-coloured (grey) lamb's wool onto the blue silk and dub a slim body, letting the blue show through.
3. Tie in a mottled brown feather from a partridge's back by the tip at the two-thirds mark.
4. Take one or two sparse turns of hackle and secure with the silk.
5. Stroke the fibres back, build a small head, whip finish and varnish.
