Materials

  • Tail Blue dun material (Few hackle fibers)
  • Body Blue-gray material (Muskrat or blue-gray dubbing)
  • Hackle Blue dun hackle (1 soft hen feather)
  • Wing Slate gray (Matched duck quill slips)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start gray thread, winding to the barb.
  2. Tie in a few blue dun hackle fibers for a short tail, about half a shank long.
  3. Dub a slim, slightly tapered blue-gray body forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Tie in a soft blue dun hen hackle by the tip and take 2-3 turns, then sweep the fibers rearward and bind them down as a beard.
  5. Set matched slate duck-quill slips low over the body as a wet-fly wing, tips curving down and reaching the hook bend.
  6. Form a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
