Classic Recipe

  • Hook Low-water single (about 3/4 inch shank), 6-10
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tag Silver twist (as needed)
  • Tail Two Indian crow feathers back to back (2)
  • Butt Black herl (few turns)
  • Body Finest oval silver tinsel, intersected by four sets of chatterer above and below at equal distances (full shank)
  • Wing Two strips of yellow macaw and two toppings (2 strips + 2 toppings)
  • Head Black herl (few turns)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap a tag of silver twist over the barb, then tie in two Indian crow feathers back to back for the tail. Form a black herl butt.
  2. Wind the body with the finest oval silver tinsel, pausing at four equally spaced points (the first at one-fourth of the way, the fourth forming the throat) to veil a small chatterer feather above and below the body at each set.
  3. Set two strips of yellow macaw for the wing with two golden toppings over the top.
  4. Form a small black herl head and whip finish.
