  • Hook Firehole 315 or similar scud hook, 14-18 (size 10 shown by Piscator)
  • Thread White FWN underbody, blue 8/0 210d / 8/0 (70d)

Materials

  • Bead Silver brass or tungsten to appropriate hook size or one size larger
  • Tail Dun Antron or Z-Lon
  • Body Mirage Flashabou
  • Ribbing Small blue UTC wire
  • Collar Blue ice dubbing

How to tie it

  1. Put the bead on the scud hook, secure it in the vise and start the thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a small tail of Antron/Z-Lon (or other tail material) at the bend on top of the shank, keeping the underbody as uniform as possible.
  3. Tie in the small blue UTC wire along the side of the shank behind the bead, and the Mirage flash beside it, and bind them down with touching turns back to the tail.
  4. Return the thread to just behind the bead and wrap the Mirage forward in touching turns with no gaps, stopping just behind the bead; secure and trim the excess.
  5. Rib the body with the blue wire in open, even spirals for segmentation; tie off and trim or helicopter it off.
  6. Dub a small collar of blue ice dub behind the bead for a blue hot spot.
  7. Whip finish (Piscator uses a double whip finish) and trim the thread.
