Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook, 12-16
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Metallic pink or copper tungsten bead (1)
  • Tail CDL (sparse)
  • Body Peacock or hare dubbing (slim)
  • Rib Wire (spiral)
  • Tag Fl. orange thread butt (hot)
  • Collar CDC, sparse (1 turn)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye, mount the jig hook, and start brown thread behind the bead.
  2. At the bend, first build a bright fluorescent orange thread butt. This hot tag at the BACK is the trigger point.
  3. Tie in a few CDL fibers as a sparse tail over the tag, and catch in the wire rib.
  4. Dub a slim body of peacock or hare dubbing forward to just behind the bead, then rib forward with the wire in 4-5 turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a CDC feather and take one sparse turn as a soft collar behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.

Substitutions

  • Collar instead of Fluorescent orange ice dub / hot spot: Fluorescent pink Ice Dub — Alternate hot-spot color; Red UV Ice Dub — Subtler trigger
  • Legs instead of Black/barred rubber legs: Barred Sili Legs — Standard, great movement; Speckled Centipede Legs — Finer for smaller sizes
  • Bead instead of Gold tungsten: Copper tungsten — Warmer head; Black nickel tungsten — Stealthy in clear water
