Materials

  • Bead Gold 5/32" bead
  • Tails Brown or tan goose biots
  • Body Red floss
  • Ribbing Peacock herl and gold UltraWire size small
  • Collar/legs Partridge feather natural color

How to tie it

  1. Lay a thread base along the hook shank and make a small bump of thread at the rear, which keeps the tail biots separated.
  2. Tie in two goose biots, one on each side of the shank with their curve pointing away from it, about body length; secure with loose wraps first, then firmer.
  3. Tie in the fine gold wire along the shank.
  4. Tie in a peacock herl, with the fragile tip removed.
  5. Tie in red floss and wrap it forward in touching turns for a fat, carrot-shaped body; tie off and trim the excess.
  6. Palmer the peacock herl forward in open spirals and tie it off at the end of the red body.
  7. Counter-wrap the gold wire forward over the herl to secure it, then tie off and cut the wire.
  8. Strip the fibres from one side of a partridge feather, tie it in by the tip, wrap a couple of gentle turns for a collar and tie off.
  9. Tie in a peacock herl behind the bead and make a few turns to cover the feather stem, then whip finish.
