Wet Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions
Classic Recipe
- Hook Standard wet, 10-14
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Tail Red duck slip (small)
- Body Flat silver (smooth)
- Wing Blue-black mallard (slips)
- Hackle Scarlet hen (beard)
How to tie it
- Start black thread and lay a base to the bend.
- Tie in a small slip of red duck quill as a tail, pointing back.
- Catch in flat silver tinsel and wrap a smooth bright body forward to behind the eye, then tie off.
- Tie in scarlet hen fibers as a beard under the throat. The red hackle is what makes it "bloody" instead of a plain Butcher.
- Tie in matched blue-black mallard quill slips as a wing over the body, tips to the bend.
- Build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
