How to tie it
Slide the countersunk bead onto the hook with the small opening over the hook point (optional).
Secure the hook in the vise, lock the thread in place, and build a wall of thread behind the bead to hold it.
Run the thread back to the point where, left hanging, it would hang just inside the bend of the hook.
Cut and align a small bunch of red marabou and tie it in at the bend as the tail, first with loose wraps, then locked down.
Run the thread forward over the marabou butts to build a little bulk for the body.
Tear the tail off to length: slightly shorter than, or the same as, the abdomen plus thorax.
Optional: fold one red flash fibre in half, loop it over the tail, lock it with thread, split the two flash fibres either side of the tail and wrap back to the tail base; trim to about tail length.
Move the thread forward, tie in the ribbing wire against the wall behind the bead, keep it on the side of the shank and run the thread back to the tail base.
Build the thread abdomen by running the thread back and forth, and stop where the thorax will start (thorax about one third of the body, abdomen two thirds, the bead counting as thorax).
Wrap the wire forward in widely spaced turns to the thorax point, secure it and cut off the excess.
Tie in a couple of peacock herl fibres with their tips aligned, firmly behind the bead; wrap the thread back to the thorax point and forward to just beyond the bead.
Wrap the herl for the thorax, one or two wraps over each other at the bead, secure and cut off the excess.
Do two whip finishes, cut the thread and apply head cement.
