Materials

  • Bead Midge Clear Glass Bead
  • Rib Small or X-Small Copper Wire
  • Collar Peacock herl

How to tie it

  1. With the bead on the hook, start fine red thread right behind the bead and cut the tag.
  2. Tie in a piece of fine copper wire now, so the body stays uniform and smooth.
  3. Take the thread forward, stopping about a bead's width behind the bead; the peacock goes there.
  4. Spiral the wire evenly around the body, tie it off and break it free by pulling on it with the thread.
  5. Tie in one piece of peacock herl for the head/thorax with the mohawk side facing up, so it stands and flares when wrapped.
  6. Wrap the herl to build a small head with nice even wraps, without overdoing it.
  7. Whip finish.
