Reference Recipe

  • Hook Short curved egg/scud hook, 12-16
  • Thread Orange 6/0

Materials

  • Outer egg Pale pink/apricot (Egg (Glo-Bug) yarn)
  • Dot Red/blood orange (A small tuft of hot egg yarn)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the midpoint of the shank.
  2. Lay a small tuft of hot red-orange yarn across the shank for the blood dot and hold it upright.
  3. Cross a larger clump of pale egg yarn over the top of it so the hot color sits nested in the center.
  4. Take firm figure-8 and pinch wraps to gather all the yarn into a tight ball at one spot on the shank.
  5. Whip finish and cement the thread wraps.
  6. Lift the yarn, pull it taut, and snip it into a round egg with the blood dot showing through the middle.
