How to tie it
Slide the gold bead to the eye and start the thread behind it.
Tie in a sparse clump of shimmer fringe on top of the shank for the tail, trim the butts, and clip the tail to one shank length.
Tie in the small copper wire along the near side and bind it back to the bend, then spiral the thread forward.
Tie in a second clump of shimmer fringe along the side of the shank, then build a slight thread taper that thickens toward the bead.
Wrap the shimmer fringe forward around the shank up to the bead and tie it off; trim any straggly fibers.
Counter-wrap the copper wire forward in 4-5 open turns, opposite the direction of the body wraps, pulling it tight so it bites into the slippery material, then tie off.
Tie in a clump of about 20 fringe fibers on top of the shank for the wing case and legs, then push the bead back slightly and jump the thread to the bare shank in front of the bead.
Pull the fringe forward over the top of the bead, split it into two equal bunches, and lash one down along each side of the shank so the fibers sweep rearward. Keep it sparse.
Whip finish in front of the bead while holding the fibers back, and trim the thread.
Gather the leg fibers and trim them to half the body length, then coat the top of the fly and the head with brush-on Zap-A-Gap to lock the bead and fibers in place.
