Overbody Red buzzer wrap (UTC thread, worked flat and glossy)
Bead (optional) Black bead (5/64 or 1/16 inch)
Finish (Deer Creek fine UV resin)
How to tie it
Start fluorescent chartreuse thread on a size 14 curved nymph hook with just a few wraps, then tie small golden olive wire in along the near side and run it into the bend.
Whip finish the chartreuse off and bring the red UTC in, working it up and down the shank to flatten it out. Keeping the red glossy and flossed rather than corded is the whole trick to this fly.
Cover the chartreuse only partly. You want some of the green still reading through the red so the two colours blend.
Rib forward with the golden olive wire in even turns and tie off.
If you want it heavier, add an undersized black bead - 5/64 on this hook, or 1/16 for anything smaller.
Coat the body with a thin layer of fine UV resin and cure. The resin is what blends the red and chartreuse together into the single glowing colour the pattern is named for.
