Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gape stillwater lure hook, 10-12
  • Thread Orange 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Fluoro orange mono (Fluoro orange marabou plume)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (A few strands of pearl/orange Krystal Flash)
  • Body Sunburst (Sunburst/orange straggle (Fritz) chenille)
  • Eyes White uni stretch (Paired foam booby cylinders in white/orange)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the eye, then wrap back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a fluoro orange marabou tail, one shank length long, with a couple of strands of flash either side.
  3. At the very front, trap a foam cylinder across the shank and figure-8 it into two buoyant eyes. These are what float the fly.
  4. Return the thread to the tail and tie in the straggle chenille.
  5. Palmer the chenille forward in touching turns up to the eyes, wiggling fibers free, and tie off behind them.
  6. Whip finish tight behind the eyes and add cement.
