Black Red Neck Nugget

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Jig / chironomid hook, 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten bead (black or silver) (to fit)
  • Body Black thread or tinsel (-)
  • Rib Fine silver or pearl wire/tinsel (1 length)
  • Collar/hot spot Red thread or dubbing (few turns)
  • Coating UV resin (optional) (-)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook.
  2. Build a slim, glossy black body over the shank, optionally ribbed with a fine silver or pearl wire in 5-6 evenly spaced turns for chironomid segmentation.
  3. Wind a few turns of red thread or dub a small red collar right behind the bead as a hot-spot trigger, the 'red neck.'
  4. Coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin for a hard, shiny chironomid finish if desired.
  5. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
