Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1x-long nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Dark permanent marker (Dark pheasant-tail or dun hackle fibers)
  • Body Dark brown-black material (Dark brown-black dubbing)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine copper wire)
  • Wingcase Black floss (Dark turkey or pheasant-tail slip)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (Brown partridge fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread, running it back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short tail of dark fibers, half a shank long, and catch in fine copper wire.
  3. Dub a slim, slightly tapered dark body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib with 5 open turns of copper wire and tie off, then tie in a dark wingcase slip pointing back.
  5. Dub a fuller thorax, then sweep a few brown partridge fibers along each side as legs.
  6. Pull the wingcase over the thorax, bind it at the eye, and trim the butt.
  7. Whip finish and cement.
