Slide the metallic pink tungsten bead on, seat it at the eye of the jig hook, and start black thread behind it to lock the bead.
Run the thread to the bend, tie in a short tail of black Coq de Leon Indio, and catch in the UV ribbing fibre at the same point.
Tie in a bunch of black pheasant tail fibres by the tips and wrap them forward to the 65% mark. Black is the deliberate choice for coloured, difficult rivers where a natural-toned fly simply disappears.
Rib forward with four or five open turns of UV ribbing fibre. UV on a black fly is the trick: the silhouette stays dark and hard-edged, but the fish still get a signal in stained water.
Tie in the black peacock Pearl Strip pointing rearward, build a short thorax, then pull the strip forward over the top as a shellback and tie off behind the bead.
Wind two turns of black CDC as a collar, sweep the barbs back, and finish with three or four turns of orange Veevus thread as a hot spot tight behind the bead before whip finishing.
