How to tie it
Build the silkworm gut eye on the blind eye hook with thin GSP, razor the ends to a taper and cover them so the shank runs smooth into the eye.
Wrap the tag. Five turns of fine oval gold, then green silk floss over a burnished base to the hook point, folding both tags back and binding them two thirds of the way so they add to the body taper rather than making a step. And finish with three turns of flat embossed gold.
Set the golden pheasant crest tail with matching arch, veil it with a Lady Amherst crest about half the tail length and two jungle cock tips leaning on each other, then wrap the ostrich herl butt.
Mount the three-part rib parallel and uncrossed. Cut a belly-shaped notch in the flat embossed gold with curved scissors before mounting it. The notch is what lets the tinsel start flush against the butt without a lump.
Wrap five turns of the oval tinsel over the threaded body to mark where the third rib falls, tie the folded black hen hackle in at that mark, then lay the black floss body over a burnished base and burnish again.
Wrap the ribs in order (oval gold, white floss, then flat embossed gold) and follow with the hackle tight against the oval tinsel, holding the fibers back with your fingers, finishing the remainder as a collar.
Mount the white tip turkey underwing, then the married wing bent so the underwing sits between the halves, and add wood duck sides, a folded teal throat, jungle cock and blue chatterer cheeks, a bronze mallard roof, a crest topping and blue macaw horns. Finish with a black head and epoxy.
