  • Hook Curved scud/pupa hook, 14-18

Materials

  • Bead Black bead (Black tungsten bead (optional))
  • Body Black ostrich herl (Black Antron/hare's-ear blend dubbing)
  • Rib Gold middle (Fine gold wire)
  • Thorax Dark brown fur (Dark brown dubbing, buggy)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (Brown partridge fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Slide on the black bead, mount the hook, and start thread behind the bead.
  2. Catch in fine gold wire and run the thread back around the bend.
  3. Dub a slim black body forward around the curve to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib the body with 5 open turns of gold wire and tie off.
  5. Dub a fuller, buggier dark-brown thorax right behind the bead.
  6. Sweep a sparse collar of brown partridge fibers around the thorax to suggest legs and antennae.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a touch of cement.
