How to tie it
Start the thread a little way back from the eye and tie in a strip of black foam, with the corners cut off or a pointed end, by its end, then wrap back along the shank to the bend.
Tie in peacock herl at the rear, anchor it with tight wraps and make the body by wrapping the herl forward.
Strengthen the brittle herl by twisting it round the thread for two or three turns before winding both forward to a fairly heavy body; tie off short of the eye.
Tie in the legs (a hackle feather with one or two turns, or a pair of rubber legs).
Pull the foam forward over the top and anchor it behind the eye with thread wraps.
Build a little thread under the head so it stands up, trim the foam leaving a short head, whip finish and add a touch of head cement.
