Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Black up-eye salmon/wet fly hook, 4-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tag Silver metal tape (fine oval tinsel)
  • Butt Fluorescent green material (floss or wool)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (floss or dubbing)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (oval tinsel)
  • Hackle Black hackle (1 saddle, throat/collar)
  • Wing Black ostrich herl (black bear or bucktail hair)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base back to a point above the hook barb.
  2. Tie in fine oval silver tinsel and wrap 3-4 turns for the tag at the rear.
  3. Form a short fluorescent green butt with floss or wool over the front of the tag.
  4. Tie in the ribbing tinsel, then build a slim black body forward to about one eye-length behind the eye.
  5. Spiral the oval silver rib forward in 4-5 even turns and tie off.
  6. Tie in a black hackle as a throat or wound collar, sweeping the fibers down and back.
  7. Stack a sparse black bear hair wing and tie it in on top, extending to the end of the tag.
  8. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
