Materials

• Bead Black bead (1)
• Wire Silver wire (rib)
• Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (1 strand, thorax)

How to tie it

1. Slide a black bead onto a scud hook and start black Semperfli thread behind it.
2. Tie silver wire in alongside the entire shank so there is no step at either end.
3. Build the body with thread alone, working the taper as you go. This is a great fly to learn on: it is nothing but thread, wire and one herl, and it still catches plenty of fish.
4. Open spiral the silver wire up the shank for segmentation and tie it off.
5. Wrap one strand of peacock herl in as a thorax, which gives the fly its iridescence.
6. Whip finish. If you intend to coat this one, coat it before you put the peacock herl on so the herl does not mat down.
