Hackle Black hen
How to tie it
Lay a black thread base on the hook shank.
Tie in two strands of peacock herl at the rear, tips first, leaving the thread tag long.
Twist the herl and the thread together and wind them forward in touching turns, brushing the fibres back, building a dense slim body; tie off short of the eye.
Prepare a black hen hackle with the fluff stripped from the base and tie it in by the tip.
Fold the fibres back and wind just one and a half to three turns of hackle at the front, keeping it sparse.
Tie off, trim, make a small head, whip finish and add a thin coat of varnish.
