Black & Peacock Wet Fly
Wet Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard wet-fly hook, 10-14
- Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Body Peacock ice dub (2-3 herls, twisted)
- Rib Fine silver (wire (optional, for durability))
- Hackle Black hackle (1 soft hen hackle)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and lay a thread base to the bend.
- Tie in two or three peacock herls (and a fine wire rib if using) at the bend.
- Twist the herls into a rope and wrap forward to the 80% mark for a plump, iridescent body.
- Counter-rib with the wire in 4-5 open turns to protect the herl, then tie off.
- Tie in a soft black hen hackle and take one to two full turns for a swept-back collar.
- Sweep the fibers rearward, build a small head, and whip finish.
