Streamer · Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Intruder shank with trailing octopus stinger hook on braid, 1/0-2/0 (shank + trailing stinger hook)
  • Thread Color to match (orange, pink, chartreuse) 6/0 (140 denier) or GSP

Materials

  • Trailing hook N/A (#1/0-2/0 octopus hook on 50 lb braid loop)
  • Tail Matching leather strip (marabou with split bucktail and flash)
  • Body Matching leather strip (palmered marabou (heavier than Stinger version))
  • Flash Pearl/color flash (generous Flashabou)
  • Wing/Back Matching leather strip (2 hen saddle feathers, tented)
  • Collar Matching leather strip (guinea and schlappen)

How to tie it

  1. Rig a large trailing octopus hook on a 50 lb braid loop and secure it to the shank riding point-up.
  2. Tie in a full marabou tail with split bucktail on top and bottom and a generous bunch of flash. The pattern is meant to be big, loud, and wiggly, about four inches overall.
  3. Palmer marabou forward for a thick, breathing body, layering in flash.
  4. Tent a pair of matching hen saddle feathers over the back as the shrimp shell.
  5. Build a soft guinea and schlappen collar and sweep it back.
  6. Form a bulky head, whip finish, and coat.
