Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree), 10-14
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten (copper or black) (1 sized to hook)
  • Tail Brown permanent marker (2 goose biots, split)
  • Rib Fine gold or copper (wire)
  • Body Peacock ice dub (herl or peacock dubbing)
  • Legs Barred rubber (2-3 strands)
  • Hackle/Collar Natural dun hackle (1 CDC feather)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread collar behind bead)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook and mount it.
  2. Tie in two split brown goose-biot tails at the bend and bind in the ribbing wire.
  3. Build a peacock body forward to the thorax and counter-rib with the wire in 5-6 turns for durability.
  4. Tie in rubber legs so a pair kicks off each side of the thorax.
  5. Tie in a CDC feather and take a turn or two for a mobile collar behind the bead.
  6. Lay a fluorescent-orange hot-spot collar right behind the bead, whip finish, and cement.
