Materials
Hackle Brown, palmered over the rear two-thirds or more of the shank
Hackle White, wrapped as a collar at the head
How to tie it
Start black thread leaving space behind the eye and wind rearward to about halfway between the hook point and the barb.
Choose a brown dry fly hackle with barbules matched to the hook size and strip off enough fibres to leave a little more than a hook shank of bare stem.
Tie the brown hackle in on the near side at the rear with the shiny side facing you, then take smooth thread wraps forward and stop about two eye lengths behind the eye.
Wrap the brown hackle forward in close touching turns with the shiny side facing forward; at the thread pull the hackle upright, secure it with three thread wraps and snip off the tip.
Pick a white hackle whose barbules match the brown, strip a scant eighth of an inch of fibres and tie it in at the front of the brown.
Wind the white hackle forward in touching turns starting right where the brown ends, leaving only a little space behind the eye, secure with three tight wraps and snip the tip.
Whip finish with four or five turns to make a small neat head, cut the thread and add a drop of head cement.
