Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3X-4X-long nymph/streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (10-15 wraps fine wire (optional))
  • Tail White uni stretch (2 round rubber legs)
  • Abdomen Black over orange (chenille, woven or two-tone)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (chenille)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (1 saddle hackle, palmered thorax)
  • Antennae White uni stretch (2 round rubber legs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long-shank hook, add a lead-free underbody if you want it deep, and start thread.
  2. Tie in two white rubber legs at the bend splayed as tails.
  3. Tie in black chenille and orange chenille and either weave them or wrap black over an orange belly to the 60% mark for the two-tone abdomen.
  4. Tie in a brown saddle hackle and a length of black chenille for the thorax.
  5. Wrap the black chenille thorax to just behind the eye, then palmer the brown hackle forward over it in 4-5 turns and tie off.
  6. Tie in two white rubber legs angling forward as antennae over the eye.
  7. Build a neat head and whip finish.
