How to tie it
Wrap about 15 turns of .025 lead wire on the front part of the shank, leaving room behind the eye.
Cover the shank and lead with black thread, building a small thread dam behind the lead and tapering it back down, then carry the thread to the bend and forward to just behind the eye.
Tie in a pair of white Super Floss strands behind the eye as antennae, separate them, and wrap back over them to the bend.
At the bend tie in the tails the same way, square on top of the hook and separated; trim tails and antennae to a little short of a shank length.
Tie in fine copper wire on the near side, take one turn of wire round the shank, then wrap thread over it back to the base of the tails.
Strip the end of a piece of fine black chenille to the core, tie it in on top and wrap back to the base of the tail.
Strip the end of the ginger/black variegated chenille, tie it in at the back of the lead, pull it straight down under the hook and wrap over the core to the base of the tail.
Bring the thread forward to about 60 percent of the shank.
Wrap the black chenille forward in touching turns to that point, tie off and trim.
Pull the variegated chenille forward along the underside, tie it down and trim, leaving a stripe down the belly.
Counter-wrap the copper wire forward in four or five turns, tie off and break it.
Strip a short section of bare stem at the base of a black hen cape feather and tie it in by the tip at the end of the abdomen, inside of the feather toward the hook.
Tie in a stripped end of black chenille, wrap back over it to the abdomen and forward to just short of the eye to build the thorax, lifting the tie-off above the hook so the stub faces up, then trim.
Fold the hen fibres back, wrap about three or four turns of hackle over the thorax and tie off on the bare stem.
Sweep stray fibres back, make a few turns in front of the antennae and whip finish behind them, trim the thread.
Crush the hackle back into the thorax and add a little head cement.
