Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree), 14-18
  • Thread Fluorescent orange (butt/collar) plus body color 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Two-tone/prism slotted tungsten (1 sized to hook)
  • Tail/Rib Pearl anti static bag strip (few strands Flashabou)
  • Body Brown-olive or black material (thread/dubbing, coated)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread butt above bend)
  • Thorax Prism/UV dubbing to match bead (small pinch)
  • Collar Fluorescent orange egg sac (thread hot collar behind bead)
  • Coating Clear head cement (UV resin over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a two-tone slotted tungsten bead to the eye of the jig hook and mount the hook.
  2. Lay a bright fluorescent-orange thread butt just above the bend as the rear hot spot.
  3. Tie in a few strands of pearl Flashabou for a short tail and ribbing.
  4. Switch to body thread and build a smooth slim body forward, then rib with the Flashabou in 5-6 open turns.
  5. Dub a small prism/UV thorax to match the bead just behind it.
  6. Finish with a fluorescent-orange thread hot collar right behind the bead, whip finish.
  7. Coat the body with UV resin for a fast-sinking, durable, shiny finish and cure.
