Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry / curved emerger hook, 18-22
  • Thread Black (or olive) 8/0

Materials

  • Shuck/abdomen Black thread or fine dubbing (-)
  • Rib Fine silver wire or thread (1 length)
  • Post White poly or Antron (1)
  • Hackle Grizzly dry-fly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Build a slim black thread abdomen over the rear two-thirds of the hook, optionally counter-ribbed with fine silver wire in 4-5 turns for segmentation.
  2. Tie in an upright white poly post at the front third as a visibility wing.
  3. Wind a grizzly hackle parachute-style horizontally around the base of the post, 3-4 turns.
  4. Dub a small black thorax around the post base.
  5. Whip finish around the post base and trim the post to a visible tuft.
