Nymph · Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions
Classic Recipe
- Hook Curved caddis pupa / scud hook, 12-16
- Thread Brown 8/0
Materials
- Abdomen Turkey biot (brown, olive or tan) (1)
- Rib Fine gold wire (1 length)
- Thorax Olive or brown dry-fly dubbing (as needed)
- Gas bubble White Antron or Trigger Point fibers (small tuft)
- Legs Partridge fibers (small bunch)
How to tie it
- Tie in a length of fine gold wire and a single turkey biot at the bend, notched edge trailing so it wraps a segmented, ribbed body.
- Wrap the biot forward over the rear two-thirds of the hook to form a clean segmented abdomen and tie off.
- Counter-wrap the gold wire forward in 4-5 turns to reinforce the biot and add segmentation, then tie off.
- Tie in a short tuft of white Antron over the top as an emerging gas bubble, a key trigger on rising pupae.
- Dub a fuller olive or brown thorax.
- Sweep a small bunch of partridge fibers under the thorax as legs, whip finish and cement.
