Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/pupa hook, 18-24
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Black, red, or olive material (1 small biot)
  • Rib/flash Silver or pearl flash (fine wire or single strand (optional))
  • Thorax Peacock or dark dubbing (tiny pinch)
  • Gills White uni stretch (small tuft Antron/CDC at head (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and lay a slim thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small biot by the tip and wrap it forward to the 75% mark for a slim segmented pupal body.
  3. Optionally counter-rib with fine wire in 4-5 open turns for durability and flash.
  4. Dub a small dark thorax just behind the eye.
  5. For a gilled look, tie in a tiny white Antron or CDC tuft at the head.
  6. Whip finish a small head and coat lightly for shine.
