Biot Mayfly Emerger

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/scud hook, 14-20
  • Thread Olive or brown 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Brown permanent marker (few Antron fibers)
  • Body Olive, brown, or gray material (1 goose/turkey biot)
  • Wing/Emerger puff Natural dun wing bud (1-2 CDC feathers)
  • Thorax Matching leather strip (fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short trailing shuck of Antron at the bend, about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in a biot by the tip and wrap it forward to the 65% mark for a segmented abdomen.
  4. Tie in one or two CDC feathers to stand up as an emerging wing puff.
  5. Dub a small thorax around and in front of the wing to prop it up.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye with a small neat head.
