Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (60-degree), 8-14
  • Thread Brown or black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten, copper or black slotted (1 sized to hook)
  • Tails Brown permanent marker (2 goose biots, split)
  • Body Golden brown swiss straw (turkey biot or stretch material)
  • Wingcase Dark mottled wing slip (1 Thin Skin/turkey section)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (coarse dubbing)
  • Coating Clear head cement (UV resin over back)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and tie in two split goose-biot tails at the bend.
  3. Wrap a biot or stretch abdomen forward to the 60% mark for clean segmentation.
  4. Tie in the wingcase material, then dub a coarse thorax up to the bead.
  5. Pull the wingcase forward over the thorax and bind it behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish, coat the abdomen and wingcase with UV resin, and cure while rotating.
  7. Pick out the thorax to suggest legs.
