Biot Bug-Beadhead

Nymph · Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph hook, 16-20
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold or copper slotted tungsten bead (1 sized to hook)
  • Tail/Trailing shuck Brown permanent marker (few Antron or biot tips (optional))
  • Body Black, olive, or brown material (1 goose/turkey biot)
  • Thorax Peacock or matching dubbing (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and lay a smooth base back to the bend.
  3. Tie in a single biot by its tip at the bend, notch pointing the way that gives you a fuzzy or smooth edge as preferred.
  4. Wrap the biot forward in touching turns to build a cleanly segmented body, stopping short of the bead.
  5. Bind off the biot and dub a small peacock or matching thorax up to the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
