Bionic Worm

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/nymph hook, 12-16
  • Thread Red 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (1 (optional, sized to hook))
  • Body Red or wine (fine red wire or thread-and-wire)
  • Rib/Sheen Copper thorax stripe (fine wire (optional counter-rib))
  • Coating Clear head cement (UV resin or head cement over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a bead to the eye if using one, mount the curved hook, and start the red thread.
  2. Bind a length of red wire at the bend and build a smooth, slim thread underbody forward.
  3. Wrap the red wire forward in tight touching turns to the bead or eye to form a glossy segmented worm body.
  4. Bind off the wire and helicopter the excess.
  5. If counter-ribbing, spiral fine copper wire forward in 5-6 open turns for a little sheen, then break it off.
  6. Whip finish and coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin for durability and shine.
