Put a tiny touch of super glue on the shank (Nano Silk slips), start the Black Nano Silk 12/0 and take it back only to the hook point; snip the tag.
Check the Textreme Magic Tinsel 1/32 for its good side, lay it on and catch it in, then use the tinsel to carry the thread back to where the barb would be before working the thread all the way forward.
Wrap the tinsel forward in overlapping turns so no black thread shows, then bind off and remove the waste. Stop well short of the eye.
Take one strand of Peacock Herl (Dyed Black), remove the rough end and catch it in by the base, bound down tight. Leave a lot of room at the front - crowding the eye is where new tyers go wrong.
Dab a little super glue on the thread, then wrap the herl into a thorax just behind the eye, leaving plenty of room for the hackle; bind off.
Select a small Black Hen Hackle, strip the base and tie it in by the stalk (by the tip if your feathers are large). Try it both ways round to see which sits better.
Take two turns of hackle only, sweep the fibers back, secure, and snap off the waste stem.
Coat the thread with UV resin (super glue or varnish works too), whip finish, snip the thread and cure the resin.
