Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2X-long dry/terrestrial hook, 8-12
  • Thread Tan 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Body Tan/yellow material (2mm foam, layered)
  • Legs Barred yellow rubber legs (2 knotted rubber legs)
  • Underwing Pearl anti static bag strip (few strands flash)
  • Wing Natural case (1 clump elk hair)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (small foam post)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long-shank hook and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Bind a tan foam strip along the top and segment it with 2-3 thread cinches to form the abdomen, rear end reaching past the bend.
  3. Tie in a few strands of flash and a natural elk-hair wing over the body, tips at the bend.
  4. Knot a rubber leg for each side and bind them so they kick down and back at the thorax.
  5. Fold a short foam section forward over the thorax for the head and bind behind the eye, leaving a stub bullet.
  6. Set a bright foam indicator tab on top, whip finish under the head, and trim legs to about one shank length.
