Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2X-long dry/terrestrial hook, 8-12
  • Thread Tan 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Body Tan over yellow (2mm closed-cell foam, layered)
  • Underbody Yellow mcflylon (fine dubbing (optional))
  • Legs Barred tan rubber legs (2 knotted round rubber legs)
  • Wing Natural case (1 clump elk hair)
  • Indicator Pink or orange material (small foam post)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long-shank hook and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Bind a strip of tan foam along the top of the shank, segmenting it with 2-3 thread cinches to form the abdomen, tail end just past the bend.
  3. Tie in a natural elk-hair wing over the body, tips reaching the bend, and trim the butts.
  4. Knot a rubber leg on each side and bind them in at the wing base so they kick back and down.
  5. Fold a second short foam piece forward over the thorax to form the head and bullet, binding behind the eye.
  6. Add a bright foam indicator tab on top so you can see it in riffles.
  7. Whip finish under the foam head and trim legs to about one shank length.
