Materials
Abdomen 2mm or 1/8" foam, black
Head 2mm or 1/8" foam, brown
Wing CDC puff or Trigger Point fiber, white
Hackle Whiting cape, grizzly
Legs Round rubber, small, brown
How to tie it
Start the thread at the centre of the hook and lay a thread base back toward the bend.
Tie in a strip of 2mm foam at the bend and bind it down so it stands straight up.
Make two foam segments for the abdomen: cross the thread over the foam to form a larger first segment, move the thread forward, then a smaller second segment, trimming the foam end tight.
Tie down the remaining foam end to leave a chunky abdomen.
Stop a little short of the eye, tie in a second piece of foam stretched slightly thinner, and double it back over to make the head.
Tie in a white CDC puff as an upright wing and trim the butts flush.
Tie in a prepared grizzly hackle as far back against the abdomen as possible, then trim off the quill and tie down the excess.
Tie in two small brown rubber legs, one on each side, not too close to the head.
Wrap the hackle forward, keeping the rear legs from being caught, then push the legs rearward with extra thread wraps and finish the hackle behind the front legs.
Trim the hackle tip, position the legs, whip finish and apply head cement; push the head forward to cover the hook eye.
Shorten the front legs and trim the hackle flush along the bottom so the fly floats flat.
